Personally, the flood hasn't affected me that much, apart from my ISP suffering from flood-induced problems resulting in a perpetually sketchy internet connection. I did actually have to relocate but it did not cause any major problems. My family was not particularly affected, and the area around my house has not been flooded yet. I will be able to return to school on Monday. During the break I tried my best to check edline everyday and to wake up on time.
In the short term, I think that we may experience a shortage of some manufactured goods because I heard that a bunch of industrial parks got flooded. When the water recedes, the factories can be re-opened and production can resume. But the sewage and pollution that the water brought to the fields could have long-term effects. The chemicals and stuff could cause mutation in crops or make fertile land infertile. This could be irreversible, or at least extremely difficult to change. The price of produce may rise due to low supply.
In order to help the community I could lend manpower to get a sandbag wall set up. I could also donate money or food and clothing to people who have been affected by the flooding. If I stop and listen to my moral compass, I feel that I should have more empathy and I should help those displaced by the flooding to feel better. I could give some money to the 'wipe the tide' movement. I could also spend some time with people I personally know who were affected by the flood, like my relatives who live in a flooded area up north and were forced to relocate.
